Livin' the Life
I have four dachshunds that have been "retired" from breeding. That does not mean they have been "retired" from being amazing pets!
Tootsie was my very first dachshund. She started it all! LOL! Unfortunately, breeding and being a mommy weren't good on her. Her first two pregnancies required c-sections so I retired her after the second one. Tootsie continues to live as our spoiled rotten alpha female. She LOVES to go rabbit, squirrel, and mouse hunting!
Summer was my second dachshund. She was older when I got her and a lovely, sweet girl. She whelped four litters and was retired simply due to age. She was an awesome mommy! Summer also enjoys the outdoors, belly rubs, and naps. She continues to live out her life with us and all the other doxies.
Chip was my first stud. I got him as a puppy when I got Summer. He has been a wonderful daddy and has sired several litters. Unfortunately, he has produced a few kinked tails. This, of course, is not a problem for perfect pets. However, as I continue to strive for the best possible bred dachshunds as I can, I had to retire him. Chip will continue to be our fun, attention hog, sweet boy. He just won't sire anymore litters.
April was our first puppy bred and born at our home. She is a sweet but mischievious little lady! She will look at you with those big beautiful eyes of hers all sweet and innocent with the goal of stealing your sandwich or licking your ice cream bowl! She's quite the instigator too...she loves to play...or pick on the others. I retired April for two reasons. She whelped four litters but always seemed to have problems...stuck puppy, stalled delivery, c-section. It was time to not take anymore chances. Also, she is an offspring of Chip and has also produced a couple of kinked tails. April is currently living with us and enjoying her retirement.
